About the artist

Vanessa M. Norris (she/her) is a ceramic artist who has been working in clay for over twelve years. She graduated with a BFA degree in Ceramics from Massachusetts College of Art and Design and has held various jobs in the field in the years since—from studio technician to production potter to small business owner (and many things in between)! She is currently the Studio Manager at JP Clay, a community ceramics studio in Jamaica Plain, MA. When she's not at JP Clay, you can usually find her hunched over decorating a mug in her studio, cuddling her cats, or biking along the Charles River on her lavender cruiser. She’s a lover of handmade objects, tattoos, the color purple, cats, and all things clay.

Artist Statement

I am primarily a wheel-thrower who delights in creating meticulously detailed but fully functional pieces. I make colorful cloud pottery, marrying pastel colors with voluminous wheel-thrown forms. Bold and bright rainbows cascade across almost all of my pieces. When I create, I aim to make pots that are as fun to use as they are to look at--often my pieces contain protruding puffs, clouds suspended in wire, or textured bumps that create a unique tactile experience.
